St Lukes Health Appoint new CEO

St.LukesHealth Chairman Chris Dockray has announced the appointment of Chris Williams as the Chief Executive Officer of the Tasmanian not-for-profit private health insurer.

Mr Williams’ appointment comes in the wake of long-time Managing Director Colleen McGann announcing she will be retiring at the end of 2013 after more than 50 years with the organisation.

Mr Dockray said Mr Williams, who has worked closely with Ms McGann for over a decade in his role as General Manager, was the clear choice for the Board and would guide St.LukesHealth into the future.

“Chris has over 35 years’ experience in the private health insurance industry and we have no doubt he will continue where Ms McGann left off, ensuring St.LukesHealth continues to service the needs of the Tasmanian community,” Mr Dockray said.

“Our industry faces some significant challenges in the future and we are confident Mr Williams will continue to address these with the interests of our members at the forefront of his decisions.”

Mr Williams said he had big shoes to fill in replacing Ms McGann and was keen to put his own stamp on St.LukesHealth.

“The private health insurance sector as a whole is facing some tough challenges ahead, especially in relation to product offerings, competition and changes to rebates,” Mr Williams said.

“The Tasmanian market is also facing significant challenges through continued economic uncertainty, which is adding pressure to those making decisions about their private health insurance.

“However, I am confident that St.LukesHealth has a great future and will continue to deliver the highest possible standard to its members, which is after all what the organisation prides itself on.”

Mr Williams is a past President of the Rotary Club of Central Launceston, past Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and currently serves as a Director of Cityprom as well as on numerous committees in the private health insurance industry.

Karana wish to thank Ms McGann for her support of our Netball club and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
